Government Debt

December 11th, 2009
“For over a year we Conservatives have said that the national debt is crucial to turning round the economy. Now everyone agrees.
“We made a huge deal of it with the baby poster we launched this time last year. But since then it’s got worse, and the Government still has no credible plan to deal with it.
“It will be £23,000 for everyone in our country, every man, woman and child. That’s £6,000 more than this time last year. And if we don’t deal with it, like Labour, it will mean higher taxes and higher interest rates for everyone.”

The Debt Facts
1.  Every child will be born owing £23,000 in debt. Net government debt is projected to grow to £1,473,000,000,000 – almost £1.5 trillion – by 2014-15.[i]
1.  This is £6,000 more than a year ago. At the PBR last year, debt was forecast to rise to £1 trillion, or £17,000 per person.
1.  Just to pay the interest on that £23,000 debt will cost everyone over £1000 per year. The cost of servicing government debt is predicted to rise to £63.7 billion by 2013, or £1,037 per person.[ii]
1.  This year alone, Labour will add £2,900 to the debt of every child. Government borrowing this year is £178 billion[iii], or £2,900 in extra debt per person.[iv]
What you could buy with the interest on Labour’s debt.
*   If Britain wasn’t going to spend £63.7 billion a year on debt interest, we could:
·         Abolish fuel duty, inheritance tax, and stamp duty[v] or
·         Abolish council tax[vi] or
·         Pay for 1.5 million extra police officers[vii] or
·         Pay for 1.6 million extra teachers[viii] or
·         Pay for 1.9 million extra nurses[ix] or
·         Cut the basic rate of income tax by over 13p.[x]
*   Britain will spend more next year on paying the interest on Labour’s debt than on educating our schoolchildren. The Dedicated Schools Grant in 2010-11 will be £31.9 billion.[xi] Debt interest payments will be £44.4 billion in 2010-11[xii], and are estimated to rise to £63.7 billion by 2013-4.
*   Britain will spend over three times as much next year paying the interest on Labour’s debt than on our transport system. The transport budget in 2010-11 will be £13.7 billion.[xiii]
*   Britain will spend more than twice as much next year paying the interest on Labour’s debt than on police and prisons combined. The combined budget of the Home Office and the Department of Justice in 2010-11 will be £20.7 billion.[xiv]
*   Britain will spend six times as much next year paying the interest on Labour’s debt than on building homes. The total budget for ‘Building and improving the supply of housing’ in 2010-11 is £6.4 billion.[xv]
*   Britain will spend more than twice as much next year paying the interest on Labour’s debt than on tax credits. The total budget for tax credits in 2010-11 will be £22.8 billion.[xvi]
*   Britain will spend more than four times as much next year paying the interest on Labour’s debt than on the Olympics. The total budget for the Olympics is £9.35 billion.[xvii]

For over a year the Conservative party has said that the national debt is crucial to turning round the economy.  The debt this Labour government has got us into is staggering and by burying their head in the sand it’s getting worse by the day.

This is how much debt Labour has got each & everyone of us in to

1) Every man, woman and child is in debt by  £23,000 and every child will be born owing £23,000 in debt. Net government debt is projected to grow to £1,473,000,000,000 – almost £1.5 trillion – by 2014-15.

2)  This is £6,000 more than just a year ago.

3) Just to pay the interest on that £23,000 debt will cost everyone over £1000 per year. The cost of servicing government debt is predicted to rise to £63.7 billion by 2013, or £1,037 per person

Community Integtrated Care Awards

December 10th, 2009

The other night I hosted the Community Integrated Care, CIC, Awards at St George’s Hall. I became involved with this tremendous organisation after a friend of mine and trustee of the organisation asked me to come along and see what they did.

CIC is a national, not-for-profit social and health care provider and a registered charity, founded in 1988. It delivers services in over 300 sites within 43 local authority areas. The organisational model is built around four service delivery directorates; Independent Living, Senior Care, Addictions Services and Homelessness Services. CIC employs over 4,000 staff and works in partnership with a wide range of organisations in the public and voluntary sectors helping people with a wide range of needs including: learning difficulties, physical and/or profound difficulties, mental health concerns, alzheimers and dementia, substance misuse recovery, homelessness, acute brain injury and children/young people in transition people from service breakdown.

The organisation was founded by Dr Robertson twenty-one years ago who was driven by the belief that people living in long stay institutions could lead better, fuller lives in the community, supported by caring, highly trained and committed staff in their own homes.

It truly was a wonderful night with some exceptional winners

Greasby Community Centre is 25!

December 8th, 2009

Greasby Com Hall

Yesterday Greasby Community Centre celebrated 25 years of service to the community and Wendy Clements, our local Greasby candidate, along with myself and many of the local residents popped down to the centre for a bit of a knees up. Music and festive fun was provided by the Wirral Community Wind Band.

These celebrations come at a time when the centre is  in discussions as to whether it can take up full ownership of the Community Centre from Wirral Council. Already much of the management is done by volunteers, however, if the centre is to take full ownership more help is needed from the local community.  So if  you would be willing to help out, particularly if you have skills in building management, finance, fundraising or employment please contact the centre directly and ask for John Smith.

Irby Christmas Lights

December 6th, 2009

Copy of Irby Christmas Lights

Literally hundreds of people turned out on Friday night to see Santa turn on the Christmas lights in Irby.  Santa with a full collection of helpers; elves,  fairies & pixies, arrived in style as they roared into Irby Village as part of a cavalcade of motorbikes.
