copy-of-irby-quarry-and-lolly-014

Local residents in Wirral met to protest over proposed plans to use a local beauty spot into a landfill site.

Wendy Clements, local Conservative campaigner and I called the meeting after having been inundated with calls and emails from local residents concerned and angered by the proposal.

Wendy and I are now actively fighting this proposal – should you want any further information either email me directly or call the office on 0151 632 1052

Remembrance Sunday

November 10th, 2008

Remembrance Sunday Service, Grange Hill, West Kirby.

We all gathered ar about 10.30 on the Hill – waiting the service to start at 10.45 and for the minute’s silence at 11.

The heavens opened and the winds blew as we sang our hymns and bent our heads in prayer. Neither the wind nor the rain could keep the crowds away as hundrends turned up to pay their respects to those who had so valiantly and selflessly fought for us and the freedom of our country. Glod Bless the brave,  they’ll always be remembered in our thoughts and in our prayers.

Barack Obama

November 5th, 2008

Election slide 1

David Cameron has described Barack Obama’s election as the next President of the United States as “an important moment not just for America but for the world”.
David said, “In these difficult times people everywhere are crying out for change. Barack Obama is the first of a new generation of leaders who will deliver it – he has my whole-hearted congratulations.”

And he added, “Barack Obama’s victory will give people a new opportunity to look at the United States and see her for what I believe she is – a beacon of opportunity, freedom and democracy.”

On a personal note, I had the pleasure to meet Barack last year, and I wrote about that meeting on this blog, ending with the words ‘I felt this man had something unique and important to offer to the world and I do hope he gets the chance to deliver it’. He has now, resoundingly, been given that chance.

He captured the imagination of a nation which reached out and seized the opportunity for change.

Greasby Flooding Action Group

October 30th, 2008

Members of the local community came together last week to form the Greasby Flooding Action Group. Supported by hundreds of members of the community the group was officially formed.

Residents in Greasby have been particulalry badly hit by flooding, this year and last, when there has been heavy rainfall, even though they do not live in a flooding area.

In the most recent incident last month firefighters had to pump 2000 litres of flood water from the back of properties after torrential downpours.

Myself and Wendy Clements, our local Conservative candidate in Greasby, are working with residents to find a solution to this matter. I believe we need a long term strategic plan for the drainage to be sorted, but we also need an immediate action plan so homes are not flooded. The problem as we see it at the moment is that no-one is being held accountable and there are too many fragmented bodies dealing with this, such as Wirral council, the Environment Agency and United Utilities. It’s time all these bodies were brought together and held accountable for this situation. Myself and Wendy will be working with local residents and the newly formed Greasby Flooding Action Group to ensure this happens.
